In the beginning of the 20th Century, a group of master coopers in Rioja toured the wineries to make and repair oak barrels. He moved to America to search for fortune, settling in Argentina, first to work as a cooper, and then as a winemaker. In 1921, he returned to Spain and he built his own winery. Primitivo passed away in 1953 and his son Luis Gurpegui Muga took control of the business and launched some of the actual brands under the name Luis Gurpeg.
